Larvotto Resources Claims New Copper Discovery at Mt Isa

THE DRILL SERGEANT: Larvotto Resources (ASX: LRV) claimed a new copper discovery at the company’s Mt Isa project in Queensland.

Larvotto Resources reported results from recent RC drilling undertaken at the Yamamilla and IXL targets confirmed and extended known copper mineralisation at the Mt Isa project.

The company drilled the 2,100m Reverse Circulation (RC) program targeting copper, gold and cobalt that had been identified via Larvotto’s ongoing regional geochemistry and field mapping program.

The new copper discovery made at IXL sit along a mineralised N-W trend with initial drilling intersecting near surface copper mineralisation, returning:

IXLRC23003
20 metres at 1.03 per cent copper from surface, including 4m at 2.48 per cent copper from 12m.

Wide intercepts of copper mineralisation were encountered at the Yamamilla prospect, including:

YMRC23004
44m at 0.63 per cent copper from 48m, including 8m at 1.64 per cent copper from 84m.

“The recent RC drill program at our Mt Isa project has been very successful with significant results from the IXL prospect, where we intersected significant new zones of copper mineralisation from surface and a wide intercept of copper mineralisation at Yamamilla,” Larvotto Resources managing director Ron Heeks said in the company’s ASX announcement.

“The IXL result has identified a new mineralised structure and has become a new priority target.

“At Yamamilla, it is encouraging to receive a shallow intercept of 1.64 per cent copper that will also require follow-up drilling.

“Both of these results highlight the significant exploration potential with multiple targets across the 900 square kilometres land area at our Mt Isa project.

“We look forward to keeping shareholders updated on Larvotto’s future exploration activity on this highly-prospective area.”

Encounter Resources Identifies Extensive Outcropping Copper

THE DRILL SERGEANT: Encounter Resources (ASX: ENR) has claimed its Sandover copper project in Northern Territory to be prospective for sediment hosted copper.

Encounter Resources conducted mapping and water bore sampling, which the company has said confirmed outcropping and regional copper mineralisation associated with a local grey shale unit within a broader ‘red bed’ sandstone sequence – comparable to the Zambian ore shale unit.

The work undertaken by Encounter has identified major elements of a Central African sediment-hosted copper system to be present at Sandover.

“Our systematic appraisal of copper potential in the Northern Territory continues to yield positive results,” Encounter Resources managing director Will Robinson said in the company’s ASX announcement.

“The mapped outcropping copper mineralisation at Sandover appears focused around grey shale units which are poorly exposed at surface and sandwiched between red fine grained to coarse-pebbly sandstone.

“This is the classic Zambian sediment-hosted copper mineralisation setting.

“Since acquiring the initial Sandover tenement in February 2020 the project area has been progressively expanded as new data was acquired including the identification of copper anomalism in multiple Government water bore cuttings analysed utilising a handheld XRF unit.

“Further mapping and sampling are planned along with an airborne EM survey to map the prospective geological units and also as a potential direct detection tool.”

Northern Minerals Samples Encouraging Copper Results at John Galt

THE DRILL SERGEANT: Northern Minerals (ASX: NTU) achieved high-grade copper assays following a selective rock chip sampling program at the company’s 100 per cent-owned John Galt project, Kununurra in the East Kimberley region of Western Australia.

Northen Minerals completed the rock chip sampling program at John Galt in October last year.

Although the project already contains a heavy rare earth prospect, Northenrn Minerals focused this program on an area to the south of the Heavy Rare Earth Prospect on previously identified copper occurrences.

Of 24 samples collected and analysed, 12 returned assays of greater than one per cent copper with the higher-grade copper samples mostly occurring in a cluster over 500m of strike length.

Northern Minerals acknowledged its primary focus on rare earth elements, indicating the discovery of copper mineralisation provides potential for commodity diversification, particularly for a company focussed on electric vehicles and sustainable power generation.

The company plans to undertake further geological mapping, a follow up soil sampling program and a ground geophysics program, following the end of the wet season.

Based on these results, a drilling program may be considered for the June quarter.

“These copper results were an unexpected bonus for our exploration program at John Galt,” Northern Minerals managing director and CEO George Bauk said in the company’s announcement to the Australian Securities Exchange.

“While we are at our core a rare earth focused company, we will always look at ways to add value for our shareholders.

“As with rare earths, copper is an important element in the electric vehicle revolution given its widespread use in these vehicles.

“It is early days with respect to these copper results, however we are extremely encouraged by the widespread and high-grade nature of the results received.

“With the performance of Browns Range improving every day and nearing nameplate capacity, we are confident of a good year ahead.”

Stavely Minerals Encounters Second Thick Bornite Zone

THE DRILL SERGEANT: Stavely Minerals (ASX: SVY) update the market on progress of a diamond drill hole currently underway at the Thursday’s Gossan prospect, part of the company’s 100 per cent-owned Stavely copper-gold project, in Western Victoria.

Stavely Minerals reported the hole had encountered a second substantial zone of visual copper sulphide mineralisation including an interval containing bonanza bornite mineralisation.

Stavely previously reported an intersection from drill hole SMD044 at Thursday’s Gossan of a broad zone of copper sulphide mineralisation from 584 metres to 697m down-hole.

The new interval is from 890m to 938m and contains semi-massive and vein pyrite with bornite-chalcocite stringers and disseminations.

The latest result follows the earlier 110-metre intercept of chalcopyrite-bornite mineralisation and, based on visual inspection of the core by experienced Stavely geologists, has outdone the previous interval to be the best visual intercept returned from the project to date.

“The second, deeper zone of visual mineralisation encountered in the latest drill hole represents another exciting breakthrough for the company’s exploration team in its search for the core of the porphyry system at Thursday’s Gossan,” Stavely Minerals executive chairman Chris Cairns said in the company’s announcement to the Australian Securities Exchange.

“Hot on the heels of the 110-metre intercept of chalcopyrite-bornite copper mineralisation we announced last week, this is some outrageously good looking bornite-chalcocite copper mineralisation.

“Importantly, we are confident that this assemblage is clearly hotter and is likely proximal to the porphyry we are after.

“We believe that these two well-mineralised structures converge to the south and that will be the target for our next drill hole – which, after a small ‘wedge’ hole to get another intercept to confirm the orientation of the mineralisation, we hope to commence in early March.”
