St George readies for drilling of Investigators EM conductors

THE DRILL SERGEANT: St George Mining (ASX: SGQ) is set to test three new EM conductors at the Investigators prospect as part of an upcoming drill program scheduled to commence at the company’s Mt Alexander project in July 2016.

The Investigators prospect is located in the interpreted western extent of the Cathedrals fault zone, and directly along strike from the Stricklands and Cathedrals prospects, where St George has already discovered high-grade nickel‐copper sulphide mineralisation.

The company explained that, until the recent EM survey, Investigators was previously unexplored with no prior EM coverage or drill testing and that the surface EM survey commissioned by the company over this area in March 2016 was the first.

The results of the survey, which were interpreted and modelled by Newexco, identified three bedrock EM conductors St George said are consistent with massive sulphide bodies.

“We are very pleased that our first phase of exploration at Investigators has successfully delivered three new high priority EM conductors for drill testing,” St George Mining executive chairman John Prineas said in the company’s announcement to the Australian Securities Exchange.

“Every EM conductor that has been tested in the Cathedrals fault zone has intersected nickel‐copper sulphides, and these new targets ‐ in an area that has never been drilled ‐ have excellent potential for further discoveries.

“Anomaly 2 at Investigators, with its very high conductivity, is a standout target and could provide a major exploration milestone at Mt Alexander.”

St George assays confirm high-grade Mt Alexander massive sulphides

THE DRILL SERGEANT: St George Mining (ASX: SGQ) has received the first laboratory assays received for recent diamond drilling carried out on the company’s Mt Alexander project.

The company said the assays have confirmed that drilling at the Cathedrals prospect has intersected high-grade nickel‐copper sulphide mineralisation with high values of cobalt and PGEs (Platinum Group Elements).

Assays have been received for drill holes MAD14, MAD15, MAD16 and MAD17 which were drilled at the Cathedrals prospect to test three separate EM conductors.

The highlight of the drilling program was provided by hole MAD15, which returned an exceptional intersection of massive nickel‐copper sulphides of:

1.17 metres at 8.75 per cent nickel, 3.37 per cent copper, 0.24 per cent cobalt and 6.16 grams per tonne total PGEs from 30.17m.

“Our maiden drilling program at Cathedrals has added significant new areas of mineralisation that build on the initial discovery of nickel‐copper sulphide mineralisation by BHP Billiton in 2008,” St George Mining executive chairman John Prineas said in the company’s announcement to the Australian Securities Exchange.

“It is very pleasing to see our systematic planning deliver outstanding results so early in our exploration of this highly prospective but underexplored region.

“The high grades of nickel, copper and cobalt at Cathedrals are impressive and the attractiveness of the project is further substantially enhanced by the exceptionally high PGEs.

“We are looking forward to achieving further significant exploration milestones at Mt Alexander when the next drilling program commences soon.”

Gold Road intersects mineralisation on South Yamarna

THE DRILL SERGEANT: Gold Road Resources (ASX: GOR) has tossed more gold balls into the air by announcing the intersection of anomalous bedrock gold mineralisation within the company’s South Yamarna Joint Venture (SYJV) in Western Australia.

The intersections were the result of Reverse circulation (RC) drilling at two prospects, Toppin Hill and Yaffler, withing the SYJV.

The SYJV is owned 50:50 by Gold Road and Sumitomo Metal Mining Oceania.

The Toppin Hill prospect is located in the Breelya‐Toppin Hill Camp, while the Yaffler prospect forms part of the Riviera‐SmokebushCamp, 15 kilometres to the north of Breelya‐Toppin Hill Camp.

Twelve RC holes were drilled at Toppin Hill ti test northern extensions of mineralisation identified in 2014‐2015.

Gold Road said the drilling confirmed the continuation of the mineralised system with five holes returning intersections greater than 1 gram per tonne gold, and two styles of gold mineralisation identified.

The best result from Toppin Hill was:

16SYRC0084
4 metres at 1.24g/t gold from 149m.

A total of 19 RC holes drilled at Yaffler tested below an extensive aircore saprolite gold anomaly for evidence of primary bedrock mineralisation.

Twelve holes intersected gold mineralisation in excess of 0.1g/t gold, with a best result of:

16SYRC0070
4m at 0.61g/t gold from 134m.

“We are pleased with results from both the Toppin Hill and Yaffler programs,” Gold Road Resources executive director Justin Osborne  said in the company’s announcement to the Australian Securities Exchange.

“In extending the mineralisation at Toppin Hill to over three kilometres we now have a significant gold system with multiple mineralisation styles to follow‐up with new drilling.

“At Yaffler we were able to identify anomalous gold mineralisation within the important dolerite rocks that have proven to be a good host to high‐ grade gold at the nearby Smokebush Dolerite prospect.

“We are now working on more detailed targeting at both prospects, as well as the Smokebush Dolerite with its new detailed magnetics, and hope to be drilling for higher‐ grade zones in all three prospects in the second half of 2016.”

St George continues drilling at East Laverton

THE DRILL SERGEANT: St George Mining (ASX: SGQ) has completed four of five planned drill holes at the Ascalon gold target at the company’s 100 per cent-owned East Laverton project in Western Australia.

The fifth drill hole is underway with completion imminent.

All drill holes have intersected thick mafic units and associated late stage felsic intrusives with the rocks displaying evidence of intense alteration by hydrothermal fluids.

St George explained Ascalon is hosted within the thickest section of the Minigwal greenstone belt, which is situated in the hanging wall of the Minigwal Fault – a deep (trans‐lithospheric) structure providing a pathway for gold‐rich hydrothermal fluids to move from the mantle into the upper crust.

The company indicated it anticipates conducting a follow‐up drill program for Ascalon after the results from the initial drilling are reviewed.

Once the drilling of the final hole is completed, drilling will commence at the Bristol gold target.

“The strong hydrothermal alteration in the Ascalon drill holes is consistent with a favourable system for gold mineralisation.” St George Mining executive chairman John Prineas said in the company’s announcement to the Australian Securities Exchange.

“This is a very good start to the drilling at Ascalon.

“At Bristol, previous shallow drilling has established a gold anomaly over one kilometre.

“Our drilling will be the first ever test of the bedrock geology there and also offers the potential for a breakthrough discovery.”

Azure Minerals hits copper discovery at Loma Bonita

THE DRILL SERGEANT: Azure Minerals (ASX: AZS) has completed the final three diamond core holes drilled as part of Phase IV drilling at the company’s Alacrán project in Mexico.

The recent drilling was carried out on the Loma Bonita prospect and returned the first meaningful copper intercept encountered on Alacrán.

Diamond drill hole MDPD-016 intersected semi-massive copper sulphides, finishing in strong mineralisation, returning:

8.4 metres at 0.92 per cent copper from 192.4m, including 1.4m at 2.42 per cent copper from 199.4m to end of hole (200.8m)

MDPD-016 also intersected a near-surface gold-silver zone, returning:

25m at 0.78 grams per tonne gold and 28g/t silver from surface, including 11m at 1.09g/t gold and 39g/t silver from 14m.

The company now has a Phase V drill program underway at Loma Bonita, which is to be followed by drilling at Mesa de Plata Norte and on other nearby prospects.

A geophysical (Induced Polarisation) survey was also completed over Mesa de Plata and Loma Bonita with data interpretation currently in progress.

“The identification of semi-massive copper sulphide mineralisation as a very significant development for the Alacrán project,” Azure Minerals managing director Tony Rovira said in the company’s announcement to the Australian Securities Exchange.

“This discovery supports our geological model that the hydrothermal breccia at Loma Bonita is part of a feeder zone within a large mineralised system that may extend to significant depths.

“The gold-silver mineralisation within the near-surface oxide zone at Loma Bonita is the highest priority for our exploration program, and drilling is continuing there in order to delineate the overall size and grade of this mineralised zone.

“Additionally we will continue to explore for precious and base metal mineralisation at depth.

“The first step in this process was to undertake a detailed IP survey over Mesa de Plata and Loma Bonita to seek geophysical anomalies that may represent zones of alteration and mineralisation.

“This survey has now been completed and we’re evaluating the data.

“Meanwhile development studies on the Mesa de Plata silver deposit are continuing with metallurgy, mineral processing, mining and environmental studies underway.”

Azure explained the sulphide mineralisation in MDPD-016 is present in disseminated and semi-massive form over a length of 8.4m grading 0.92 per cent copper.

The hole finished in semi-massive copper sulphides, with the final 1.4m of the hole returning a copper grade of 2.42 per cent copper.

Azure is of the opinion that it is reasonable to expect additional similar mineralisation below the current depth of drilling.

Consequently, Azure indicated it will re-enter and extend this hole to determine the thickness of the copper mineralised zone.

Gold Road hits gold mineralisation on four new drill targets

THE DRILL SERGEANT: Gold Road Resources (ASX: GOR) has identified gold mineralisation in at least four prospects during an initial program of targeted bedrock drilling at the Sun River-Wanderrie Camp Scale Target, located within the company’s 100 per cent-owned North Yamarna tenements in Western Australia.

The drilling was focused on the Supergroup Anomaly, a high priority target over six kilometres long.

The best intercept was from diamond hole 16TADD0002, which was drilled at the Santana prospect and returned:

1.97 metres at 6.5 grams per tonne gold from 181m within a broader zone of gold anomalism of 21.35m at 0.75g/t gold from 180m.

A second diamond hole, 16WDDD0002, was drilled to test an aircore anomalism at the Vai prospect and intersected:

1m at 2.16g/t gold from 128m in a shear zone, almost 700m east of the main Supergroup trend.

The drilling program comprised six widely spaced diamond holes and 13 reverse circulation (RC) holes specifically targeting bedrock gold mineralisation associated with discrete aircore gold anomalies forming the six kilometre long Supergroup Anomaly.

The diamond drilling also provided information relating to the primary structure and stratigraphy of the Supergroup Anomaly geology.

Gold mineralisation in excess of 0.5g/t was identified in 11 of the 19 holes drilled.

Gold Road indicated it was planning follow-up drilling to test the dip and strike extensions of intersected mineralisation, and will initially focus on the Santana, Blackmore and Vai prospects.

“To intersect gold mineralisation in 11 of the first 19 holes drilled into the Supergroup prospects is considered a significant success,” Gold Road Resources executive director Justin Osborne said in the company’s announcement to the Australian Securities Exchange.

“This first pass drilling program covered a large area with very few holes, and confirmed bedrock gold mineralisation, including high-grades, in almost all prospects.

“We remain very excited about the potential of this trend and we will follow up with further drilling to discover the ore bodies we believe to be there.”

Terramin hits high-grade gold at Bird-In-Hand

THE DRILL SERGEANT: Terramin Australia (ASX: TZN) has received the first assay results from diamond drill core samples completed at the company’s Bird-in-Hand gold project.

Results were received from two holes drilled on the Red Reef target at the project, returning:

BH054
5.8 metres at 37.43 grams per tonne gold from 192.9m down hole, including 1.18m at 167.71g/t gold from 192.9m, respectively equivalent to true widths of 4.4m and 0.9m; and

BH056
8m at 26.9g/t gold from 187m down hole, including 4.5m at 44.71g/t gold from 187m, respectively equivalent to true widths of 6.5m and 3.7m.

Terramin said the results affirmed the high-grade gold mineralisation of the Bird-in-Hand deposit.

The company also noted drillhole BH054 returned gold intersections higher than originally expected for that part of the deposit.

The diamond drillhole program was designed principally to provide hydrological, geotechnical and metallurgical data about the Bird-in-Hand deposit to enable Terramin to progress the underground mine design and commence layouts of surface facilities.

“These assay results are exceptional and for drillhole BH054 the high grade in that particular area of the deposit was higher than expected,” Terramin Australia CEO Martin Janes said in the company’s announcement to the Australian Securities Exchange.

“These results confirm the high quality of the deposit and there’s good potential to upgrade the resource.”
